Rachael Wraith has an impressive and extensive resume, which includes working for the Toronto Zoo, Greenpeace Canada, and sitting on the Board of Directors for EcoSpark, an organization that provides tools and resources for students and teachers to understand, monitor and steward their local environment. She's also a certified EcoMentor with Earth Day Canada. It's no wonder that this is the third year she has been a finalist in the Top 25 Environmentalists Under 25!
Much of her work is involved with promoting alternative transportation. She has been working with Metrolinx since 2010, where she created EcoDriver Challenge Days, a program aimed towards high school students to promote public transportation, walking, cycling and carpooling. The program also helps to educate students about workshops on fuel efficient driving techniques.
Rachael has also worked with the Town of Ajax to promote their designation as a bike friendly community. She helped manage the recruitment of local businesses to the Welcome Cyclists Network, doubling the previous number of businesses involved with the network. Rachel’s work with the Town of Ajax also included co-ordinating and promoting events such as Sustainable Ajax Day, and managing the development and execution of communications, media and marketing of events and campaigns such as Earth Hours, Ajax Green Living Days and Ajax Moves Three Ways, a campaign focusing on the interaction between motorists, pedestrians and cyclists. She is also a member of the Corporate Green Team, supporting staff in initiatives to reduce their environmental footprint via initiatives to reduce paper and waste and finding alternative methods of commuting.
Rachael’s connection and dedication to the environment have not only driven her professional life and allowed her to make a difference, but have also led her to teach yoga. She says that, “yoga has allowed me to embrace my purpose and share my passion for the environment through teaching.”
Congratulations Rachael on your 9th place listing on our Top 25 Environmentalists Under 25!
